Barbie to celebrate 50th anniversary in style thanks to Mattel

Barbie_1.jpg
Every little girl’s favorite toy had to be the Barbie doll. She shared our joys and our sorrows and some of us preserve and collect this iconic doll even today. So for all those who never managed to get over this beauty, here is a great piece of news. Mattel has announced that as part of the iconic doll's 50th anniversary celebrations, it will enlist the help of 50 designers to create life-sized outfits for women inspired by Barbie. And if reports are to be believed designers Vera Wang and Jeremy Scott are already roped in by Mattel. That’s not all, Wang plans to design a Barbie inspired wedding dress for adults along with a miniature one for the doll. This amazing line of designer wear will be unveiled in February at the New York fashion week. Mattel who has also signed a three-year partnership deal with Council Of Fashion Designers Of America (CFDA) will be sponsoring this prestigious event. Mattel is definitely not satisfied with all this and has plans to launch a Barbie Makeup line sometime next year, and also open House Of Barbie in Shanghai.

Skinny models don’t help to sell products

skinny-model.jpgI am all for a good and fit body and totally hate the latest ‘size zero’ fad. I mean seriously it just disgusts me to see such young girls risking their health and future to look malnourished! So I am really happy with the latest studies and campaigns that are banning these size zero models. In her study psychologist Phillippa Diedrichs, of the University of Queensland, Australia, has found that skinny models are actually a turn off to consumers in TV commercials and other advertising. This experiment was carried out quite uniquely by showing around 400 women the same ads once using a size 8 skinny model and once a size 12 model. The ads didn’t seem to have any effect on the women, however when the women aged between 18 and 25 saw the adverts they felt better, and were more likely to buy after viewing the images of the larger models. Thanks to this experiment once again it can be proved that the ugly trend of ‘size zero’ models is definitely not a favorite with the people. So its time for all add film makers to re think their marketing strategies.Like miss Diedrichs argues, ‘Often people make the argument that thinness sells, and that's why they use slim models. But we can change the images we see and still sell products but also make people feel better about themselves’.

Get geeky in style with black Lego studs

black-lego-studs.jpg
As a kid I was a huge fan of Lego. Even today, I'm smitten with most things that come with a Lego tag, like Lego Star Wars. Naturally these black Lego studs are extremely appealing to me. They might be a little geeky, but they are perfectly in style. They are very tiny and cute and only when you tell people that they are Lego studs will people know. So you can be geeky, but discreetly. I love the idea of wearing building blocks as earrings. The black Lego studs come for $15.

Taito presents Chokkan Band

chokkan-band-taito.jpg
NTT DoCoMo has been in the business long before a certain Apple phone came along. It has been dealing with phones with accelerometers that let you play Chokkan (motion) games, send an email with a flick of your wrist, and use the phone physically to interact with applications. Not all of us own Guitar Hero and some of us don't want to give in to the overly popular game. That's where we can play Chokkan Band (thanks to Taito) with our mobile phones. The sensor on the phone detects movement, making it possible for anyone to use the phone as a guitar, violin or any other instrument you can think of. You can have a nice jam with Chokkan Band. Download songs through their service and have a blast. Check out the video that has a rather strange 'mascot' to promote the game.
