The freezing and torturous winter is here, and you have to do anything you can to protect yourself from the biting cold. You can go the obvious route and get yourself an old fashioned sweater or boring trench coat. But for the truly adventurous (and by adventurous we mean addicted to TV), it has to be Workaholics Bear Coat. One of the most tragic afflictions to affect babies would have to be Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). A team of researchers Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration might have created something that can help prevent this tragedy before it is too late. The circuit board conforms to the contours of the baby’s chest and stomach, stretching back and forth as the baby breathes. How it works is by following the movement of the baby’s chest. The idea is that if the parents are alerted early enough, they should be able to rouse the child and get it breathing before it is too late. The circuit board is made from polyurethane, using conventional manufacturing processes. They hope this will keep the cost of the romper at a reasonable level once it is ready to be manufactured commercially.
