Lamp dress lets you put on a vibrant show
|

This is something like Ceebies wardrobe / Lighting scheme, aimed to entertain toddlers. ‘Sharewear’ created by Di Mainstone, is a pair of dresses linked together, which light the area around them. Both, the Green and the Blue dress feature a floating, halo-on-a-stick style lamp above the wearer’s head, as well as a second light under the dress, beside the wearer’s legs. It sounds weird to say that the dresses could be slotted together at the hip or hooked up with a rod. Di Mainstone created the dresses with the V2_Lab team during her residency at the V2_Institute at Rotterdam, with the aim of providing a performance set to the artist as well as the audience.
The dresses arrive in small boxes and can be assembled on stage. But I still can’t figure out why somebody would pick this dress as their costume, when performances demand custom-made designs.
