Samurai undies for men is a sensation in Japan
|

Samurais are hot with their moves and styles and bravery. So why not get the man in your life closer to being one? In Japan, it seems that the latest trend is to gift your beau pairs of short tights for men featuring patterns from samurai warrior armor. What better way to make your man seem irresistibly manly? Ten kinds of such underwear including those bearing patterns from the armor used by legendary 16th century samurai leaders Oda Nobunaga and Takeda Shingen are offered by Rogin Inc, a Tokyo-based apparel company. Almost 10,000 pairs of these hot tights have been sold since December and the company is struggling to keep up with the ever growing demand.
Many department stores in Japan including Tenmaya Co in the western Japan city of Okayama have started selling them. It seems girls are contemplating buying them for their fathers too. Samurai-related TV programs and games, such as the drama ‘‘Furin Kazan’’ which was aired in 2007 on the country’s public TV network, Japan Broadcasting Corp. or NHK, and the game ‘‘Sengoku Basara’’ which features fictitious good-looking samurai warriors might be some of the reasons for the popularity of the underwear. A pair of these will cost you $94 which is quite expensive.
