Nintendo DS sells at the rate of 1 every 5 seconds in the U.S

The popularity of the Nintendo is unbeatable but we couldn’t imagine it would top the charts when it came to printing money. Nintendo Projects Nintendo DS™ is the top selling system of the year and reportedly sells 6 million Nintendo DS portable video game systems in the U.S through Nov 30 according to Nintendo of America Inc. Sales numbers. Nintendo DS had increased it’s sales in the U.S every year since it’s launch in 2004 and in the year 2007, it had been selling at the rate of one every 5 seconds, which is enough to project Nintendo DS as a top selling video game system of any kind this year. “Nintendo DS appeals strongly to both core and casual customers, and it’s momentum is set to propel us into 2008” Commented, George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. The all time US Thanksgiving sales record was held by GameBoy® with 600,000 systems sold in 2005, which was broken by Nintendo DS by having sale of more than 6,50,000 for year 2007.

Nintendo Ds appealed to the crowd mainly due to the diversity of software available for the system. Four Nintendo Games have sold more than 2 million in the U.S alone including New Super Mario Bros®, Mario Kart® DS, Pokemon®, Diamond and Super Mario® 64 DS, Since the year 1983, Nintendo has sold nearly 2.5 billion video games and more than 430 million hardware units globally and have also created industry icons like Mario™, Donkey Kong®, Metroid®, Zelda™ and Pokemon® which has added to their popularity world-wide.
