Broadband Internet users are increasing in ratio in UK, even during the global economy melt down. But we can’t deny the fact that the ISP’s do not have enough service to target rural audience. Only the metros communicate faster while the outskirts hardly use the Internet or just can dial out using a 56 Kb modem.

Fiber optic cables haven’t reached extensively in the country. In the mean time, a shift in technology has introduced mobile and satellite broadband. Mobile broadband holds good for the business class and frequent travellers. But signal strength chucks down the service in many areas, which holds no good even if its mobile. Because its powered through the mobile network towers and works similar to your mobile phone. Its a pain speaking through a phone with a interrupted line, right? Otherwise mobile broadband with a better signal strength definitely provides a speed of 7 to 8 Mbps in UK.
Demand for high speed wireless among the brits have made the ISP’s to think about satellites. We are well aware of how the satellite TV works and has satisfied a millions of entertainment lovers. Research and development of wireless technology has proved that Internet packets can make a smooth move from satellites to the users computer. It uses a dish and a modem receiver which is installed in the user premise to receive the broadband connection. Satellites which revolve around the orbit will receive and send the broadband signals. The satellite dishes will be pointed towards the direction or frequency of the satellite, so that it can catch up the signals from the satellite and send responses back.
Avanti, one of the broadband service provider in the UK has announced that the satellite equipment is made ready and it have arrived ISRO, India for the launch. The equipment is prepared and the count down for the launch will start very soon. In the mean while, Immarsat has revealed that the sales has shooted up, after British Airways decided to offer broadband access through satellites for the take offs between London to New york.
The UK ISP’s move in satellite broadband service to meet the government’s proposal for broadband service in 2012, has brought hopes for millions in the country. But there is also a question of the prices for the new Internet device and also problems that can be caused due to natural and climatic disasters. We still can believe that tech aspirants will come up with the new innovations in the satellite service, so a cheaper and much faster service could be provided in UK like the rest of the world.
