Virtual Fridge Lock app posts your mid-night snacking saga on Social-networking sites
Dieting and weight-control has become one serious issue these days, with Smartphones, watches and gadgets vying to ‘assist’ them with their obsession. I’m not saying that it is a bad thing to stay healthy, but when you’re reminded about what you eat all day, it could turn into one emotional trauma that is hard to recoup with. A new Smartphone app has been launched to shame dieters by posting reports of late-night refrigerator raids to friends via social networking sites. How cruel is that! The app dubbed as Virtual Fridge Lock was created for Brazilian weight-loss firm Meta Real to help promote its diet program. The app that works in conjunction with a magnetic device that is attached to the side of a fridge; captures an image of the person when they raid their fridge.

The app immediately updates the person’s Facebook and Twitter pages with the animated image that reads in bold ‘This person just raided the fridge’. The ones who see the post are then encouraged to reply with comments that condemn such overindulging. Of course, the app is only for those, who sign up for the company’s program. However, a system such as this is never encouraging in my opinion. The motivation here is fear, which is a really bad emotion to incorporate into your dieting program!
