Accessories made of Excess Barbie Fabric and Trimmings

Talk about being environment friendly. Mattel has apparently come up with a collection of accessories called Barbie BCause that is the company’s new and playful trendy collection of hats and bags that they released just in time to celebrate Earth Day. That is kind of ironic considering Barbie dolls themselves are made out of plastic and are pre-packaged in more plastic and none of this is the kind of plastic that you can re-cycle! And of course it is no secret that plastic is not exactly the most environment friendly material!
But then again the limited edition Barbie BCause assortment of accessories doesn't include a real doll. What it does include are brightly-coloured, patch-work style bags, backpacks, pillows and totes. All the items are made out of "excess fabric and trimmings from other Barbie doll fashions and products which would otherwise be discarded," says Mattel's press release. While this is not exactly the best way to educate young girls about how their environment is getting destroyed – you have to give Mattel some marks for at least trying to show that they care.
