Moms are texting to stay in touch with their new gen kids

Talking on the phone isn’t happening these days, especially for the moms who call up and await their kid’s response for a long, long time. That’s when moms and grandmoms have taken to the new way of parenting, i.e. Text messaging. The negative effects of teens and tweens being addicted to their mobile hand accessories are vast, but when it comes to keeping in touch with their family it comes out handy. There are moms who message their kids in high school, asking “Hey how’s lunch today?” for which they get a reply within a few seconds. It’s not just mom’s we’re talking about here, even grandmoms over 60 who have learned to use the new age technology. Parents have to shift to the things that they use because it’s likely a parent’s best shot of actually getting a reply from their busy, tech-savvy kids.

According to the stats, an average teen sends between 50-70 text messages per day, so unless parents switch to texting, they’ll have to resort to the voicemail which would mean no reply or out-of-date replies. Apparently, in the year 2008, 19.8 million moms have text messaged, which is about 75% more than the previous year.
