Lipsticks and the economy

skin_lips.jpg
Leonard Lauder, the chairman of Estée Lauder Companies was once heard making this observation. He explained that lipstick purchases are a way to gauge the economy. When it’s shaky, he said, sales increase as women boost their mood with inexpensive lipstick purchases instead of $500 slingbacks. Mr. Lauder came to this conclusion when he saw the economy going down post the terrorist attacks in 2001. He saw that his company was selling more lipstick than usual. Beauty brands remain true believers in the theory, even though in the last few years the lipstick market has fallen on hard times as its glistening cousin, lip gloss, has had robust sales.

Help the environment. Don’t wash your jeans often!

jeans.jpg Want to be environmental friendly while wearing your favourite pair of jeans? Wear your jeans at least thrice before washing them and then do so in cold water, don't use the dryer and not the iron either, says the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). By following these practices, people can consume up to five times less energy, according to a 30-second TV spot prepared by the UNEP Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (UNEP DTIE). "The number of wash cycles drives environmental impacts and the application of smart technology that halves the number of washes in the life cycle of the product is beneficial," said Robert Bisset, head of communications at UNEP DTIE, told IANS in an email interview.

Designer Jacky Wu has used a spectacular idea and used LED lights in the jump rope and the end result is a product named Jumplay. As you jump, the device records each revolution then displays that figure (along with time and calories burned) using LEDs embedded on the rope. sheer_bliss.jpg
To counter the topic above – what is possibly woman’s worst enemy at a party or at the workplace – her high heels. Often after a hard night of partying at dancing or even a long day at work, walking around in heels can be a problem and slipping into something comfortable is something that falls under the ‘wishful thinking’ category. Well, not anymore for sure! Typsy Feet is the newest shoe that can take care of that wish. These shoes are small enough to be folded and fit into your handbag and at the end of the night you can take them out and slip them right on! Richard Branson marries in space

branson-astromos.jpg
This is craziness. But a lovely way to portray your love to someone whom you care for. Richard Branson says he's looking to make it possible for couples to get married in space and he wants to be the one who performs the ceremony. "The couple who have booked in for a honeymoon on the $199433-a-ticket maiden flight are Virgin Galactic adviser George Whitesides and his new wife, Loretta Hidalgo," the Daily Mail says. The 58-year-old billionaire thrives on innovation and loves to do things before anyone else, which is why he hopes to be the world's first person to marry someone in the world's first galactic wedding. "We have had two bookings involving marriage, one to get married in space and the other for the couple to have their honeymoon in space," said a Virgin Galactic spokesperson. "It is possible that Richard could obtain a license to conduct the marriage." "Customers will have a two-hour flight, go up to 70 miles above the Earth and experience amazing views of the planet, G forces and weightlessness after a three-day training programme."

Women give up secrets for chocolate

woman_eating_chocolate.jpg Okay okay so they don’t give up secrets but they do supposedly give up their passwords. A recent study (if you can call it that) by Infosecurity Europe conducted on the streets of London, showed that 45 percent of women targeted were willing to give up their passwords to strangers in exchange for a chocolate bar. And you know how they say chocolate is better than sex? Yeah this is totally unrelated but I just thought I would throw that in as well. But then again, it seems that women might think that way.Apparently, only 10 percent of the men interviewed were willing to do the same.

Giving Gamers a Hard Time

As if gamers did not already have it tough from their girlfriends! The recent episode on gamers on the Tyra Banks show did not do much but to add to their grief when a gamer and his girlfriend landed up on the show and both the women just had a go at the poor guy! He was, to say the least, castrated and humiliated in every way possible on television. And when Morgan Webb, the gaming goddess herself landed up, gamers who were watching the show (though I doubt they were) might have thought there was hope for them. Little did they know what was coming their way. Webb who was brought in as an expert of sorts supported the girlfriend completely and added to the misery of the poor gamer on the show. For gamers across America, that just reaffirmed the fact that Webb was nothing more than a poser and of course and absolute !@#$%^& for dissing the very stuff that led her to being famous.

Chocolate pen caters to your secret fantasy

chocolate_pen.jpg
Chocolate has been a perfect turn on for Adam and Eve and if you wish to become a body artist with it, it’s even better. All you need is a willing partner to pep up your practice. It’s a lot of fun to draw stuff with this pen, pretend to make mistakes and erase them deliberately. I can imagine the amount of calories we’d be putting on, with a chocolate pen selling for $15.
