There are various rare diseases that never raised their ugly heads even a decade back. The new age has triggered the onset of many such weird diseases and one of them is the Sleeping Beauty Sickness, inflicting 15-year old Louisa Ball of Britain. The sickness is typically characterized by long sleeping patterns that may run into days or even months on end. Teenagers are the most common victims of this disease and the cause of the disease has not been registered yet. Louisa was diagnosed with Flu when she was 13 and the Sleeping Sickness started then on, making her longest bout in bed as much as 13 days. Louisa’s parents often woke her up forcefully to make her have her meals or visit the bathroom, but she’s often wake briefly, but be disoriented and not fully alert. Louisa has continually slept through family vacations, the dance recitals, she loves to perform in, school tests and big chunks of her social life. When she finally wakes up, her friends fill in for all that she missed.

She was finally diagnosed with Kleine-Levin Syndrome, whose victims may total upto barely a thousand, and hence, the research conducted on this relatively rare disease is insufficient. The syndrome is unrelated to Narcolepsy where the patients are constantly tired and drop off for brief periods of sleep. Whereas, the syndrome here is episodic which means that it occurs sporadically.
