Dosimeter will warn you about Sunburn…… after eight hours!

I think I have lost count of the number of times I have dozed off on the beach only to wake up with a painful sun burn. I bet many of you can relate to this miserable situation. I just wish there was something that could warn me in time and I don’t have to go through this torture every summer. Well, looks like wishes do come true. Scientists at the University of Strathclyde’s Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry have developed a device that alerts you before sunburn shows up. The device has sensitivity to ultraviolet light and therefore gives a warning when sunburn may show up on the skin. Known as the Dosimeter, it can be worn as a wristband. Working on an acid-release agent and dye mechanism, the device warns the wearer by changing colors as the agent reacts with the sunlight. The normally yellowish device turns pink when coming close to the limit that skin can take before it starts to burn. A neat device, there is however one flaw. The device can take anywhere from four to eight hours to alert a person! (I knew it was too good to be true).

A great device, with a few developments (especially the time for alert), it will definitely be a best seller.
