Final Frontier Designs making a Space Suit for commercial space travel
Which kid hasn’t grown up with the dream of becoming an astronaut and played around in their make-believe spaceships. Whether it is dressing up as one for Halloween, or pretending to be one while playing with ones friends, being an astronaut always seemed like a very far-away dream. However, as the possibility of commercial space travel becomes real, the people over at a Brooklyn Startup, Final Frontier Design, are taking it upon themselves to suit you up for your foray into space! They have focused their energies into creating the next generation space suits. These low-cost commercial inside-the-spacecraft spacesuit is called an Intra-Vehicular Activity suit (IVA), and can be pressurized in the event of an emergency. It is intended to be lightweight and easy to manufacture, while still providing safety and functionality. It is equipped with an oxygen inlet, communications cap and connector, a pressure relief valve and regulator, and a visored helmet.

The latest version of the Intra-Vehicular Activity suit (IVA) from Final Frontier Design is the third generation of its kind. They hope to have it ready for NASA certification by the end of the year. While it isn’t clear how much this personal space suit will cost one to buy, it is supposedly being manufactured with the aim of costing only about a fifth of what a traditional NASA suit would.
