Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton sports 1980s hot roller-skating gear for charity
|
We all know Kate Middleton as Prince William's girlfriend and how envious of her we are. I'm sure a few are trying to run black magic spells on her. But don't be so drastic; this girl is doing some good for the society, even if it means arriving in shiny roller-skating hot pants and sequins. I'm sure that was part of the dazzle though. The 26-year-old beauty organized a 'tongue in cheek' event in Vauxhall, London for a charity. This turned out to be a huge success and a total of £100,000 was raised for a new surgical ward at Oxford Children's Hospital, set up in memory of Thomas Waley-Cohen, who died from bone cancer in 2004 when he was just 20. Mr. Waley-Cohen attended Malborough College with Kate and was also friends with William and Harry. Thomas' brother Sam, an amateur jockey was also involved in organizing the event in the Renaissance Rooms, along with Holly who is Sir Richard Branson's daughter. This is what he had to say about the fundraiser, "The day-glo roller disco came about after a group of us got together and decided that we wanted to help raise money for these two extremely worthwhile charities. We wanted to do something fresh and new; something that would be fun and a bit tongue in cheek, reflecting the lighter side of life; very much like Thomas was himself. The care that Thomas received in Oxford made such a difference to his life and to my family's which is why we are supporting Tom's Ward - to make sure that thousands of other children can receive first-class medical treatment for their illnesses and conditions."
Along with this cause, the event organized by Kate Middleton also raised funds to support Place2Be, a charity providing counseling to schoolchildren in need.
