The Paradox of Declining Female Happiness: Is the modern woman really unhappy?

Female_Happiness.jpg It is hard to imagine that after almost 40 years of feminism, women still are discontented and unhappy. This is no laughing matter and requires immediate attention from female folks across the world. According to a study, despite having more opportunities than ever before, today’s women have a lower sense of well-being and life satisfaction. In simpler words- today’s women are unhappy. This study has been termed as the Paradox of Declining Female Happiness. Various studies conducted across the globe have reported an average decline in women’s happiness as compared to men. The reason for this growing discontent has been attributed to the increasing demand on women as home makers and career woman. The increasing pressures to do it all has left the modern woman exhausted and unhappy despite of growing opportunities surrounding her. This phenomenon is definitely an eye opener and has left me wondering about what went wrong. Is the modern society hampering the overall development of women? Or was the period before women’s lib more suitable for overall well being of a woman? If so, does this mean women must go back to the old role as home makers to achieve satisfaction and happiness?

A serious thought should be put into this issue and a balance must be achieved to ensure overall growth for women. Any suggestions on how we can combat this cloud of gloom?
