XM Launches Oprah Into Orbit
Attach a name of a celebrity to your existing business and watch it stakes zoom up in the market. It’s a very common practice….but still it rakes in more cash. XM Satellite Radio has just done the same. After its recent setbacks, XM is hoping that Oprah can do for satellite radio what she’s done for books. The company announced the launch of its effort to bring in Oprah Winfrey fans with a new channel from the talk show celebrity. The news hits after the companies had on Feb. 9 announced their three-year agreement for the Oprah channel. A broad range of caller-driven talk show includes personalities from “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and O, The Oprah Magazine, and “Oprah & Friends.” The around-the-clock programming covers topics ranging from nutrition, fitness and health to self improvement, home decor and current events.
“For me, being a part of XM Radio is a full-circle moment because I started out in radio when I was 16 years old and now I’m able to share the airwaves with my friends,” Oprah said in a press release. Bob Greene, Ms. Winfrey’s personal trainer; cardiologist Dr. Mehmet Oz; designer Nate Berkus; psychologist Dr. Robin Smith and author Marianne Williamson will have shows on the XM Satellite Radio station. In addition, there will a reality segment featuring Ms. Winfrey and her best-friend Gayle King. Now Oprah’s friends are just a call away.
